Cyclone Stadium is a location from the 2023 Disney/Pixar animated feature film Elemental.
Background
Cyclone Stadium is a sports arena located in Element City where various airball players participate almost equivalent to that of a basketball stadium. The teams who would participate during a game mainly consist of the Windbreakers, adored by many fans of airball, as well as the opposing team, the Cropdusters. Ember and Wade visit the stadium to negotiate with Gale about the Lumen family's business about to go bankrupt to help Ember's family keep their business growing in Element City, despite adversities that Ember faces living with other elements that mix.
Unlike any typical sports stadium, there is no floor located below the bleachers, because most of the elements who participate here are air elements due to their abilities to float having characteristics of clouds.
The Cyclone Stadium is connected to the rest of the city via a Wetro station, called Air Stadium Station.
Role in the film
In a plan to negotiate with Gale about the Fireplace being shut down, Wade and Ember visit the Cyclone Stadium where they meet Gale who is watching her favorite airball team, the Windbreakers, playing airball throughout the stadium. As Gale is too busy enjoying her experience watching her favorite team win while Ember interrupts, it is then realized that the Windbreakers are losing to the Cropdusters, much to the audience feeling furious that their team is losing. For a strategy to help the Windbreakers win, Wade convinces the audience to cheer for Lutz, which the spectators give him a massive encouragement to cheer for him, holding signs that spell out a cheer for Lutz. Hearing the crowd cheering for him, Lutz becomes determined in helping win the game, causing the Windbreakers to score more points than the Cropdusters, resulting in the Windbreakers to win, impressing the crowd. The stadium is not seen again afterwards for the rest of the film.
Trivia
- The way Wade performs a wave across the bleachers with other water elements in the scene is a reference to the Mexican wave, a rhythm where a group of spectators raise their arms when they cheer; however, Wade, himself is a water element who forms a wave, making it a pun between a moving ridge of water as well as the rhythm chant.
